The Friday Morning Listen: Bruce Springsteen - Live on the Today Show

Friday, September 28th, 2007

The energy level about this record and tour continues to build. I can hardly stand it. I’ve had the record for a few days now and am just dying to tell my music pals about it.

Anyway, it’s a vacation day and me & TheWife™ sat around sipping coffee while Bruce and company banged out a few tunes on the Today Show. Fun stuff.

Springsteen: Setlist from 2nd Rehearsal Show

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

I had fun last night watching the live updates. Man, some people can find a reason to complain about anything. Now it’s that there are too many songs from Darkness On The Edge Of Town.

My only complaint is that I wasn’t there.

And please Bruce, Rosie?

Music Review: Bruce Springsteen - Magic

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

It’s seems like we’ve been waiting a long time for this. The good news for vinyl-lovers is that Magic was released in that format yesterday, a whole week before the CD.

Here are my first thoughts on the record.

Music Review: Groundtruther - Altitude

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

This brings to a conclusion the Groundtruther trio of Latitude, Longitude, and Altitude. I hate to use the word “conclusion” because this time around, Charlie Hunter and Bobby Previte have brought the fab John Medeski along for the ride. These guys were meant to play together.

And what a ride it is.

The Friday Morning Listen: Greg Brown - Yellow Dog

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

Community means different things to different people. The Internet has changed that a little, but the basic ideas have survived.

So read a little tale about how two old friends finally meet. That, and there’s the fantastic music of Greg Brown. What? You don’t own any Greg Brown? What the heck’s the matter with you?!

The Friday Morning Listen: The Who - Who Are You

Friday, September 14th, 2007

I was getting a haircut yesterday and I looked up at the mirror and I thought…

Who the hell is that?!

The Friday Morning Listen: David Bowie - Reality

Friday, September 7th, 2007

Do you have any “strange attractions”? These aren’t necessarily guilty pleasures, but things that you like to read/watch/listen to that make no sense given the person that you are?

Well, I do. It’s fashion.

Music Review: Matthew Shipp - Piano Vortex

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Matthew Shipp, as curator (as they say) of the Thirsty Ear Blue Series, has produced some spectacular recordings over the past few years. Some of them have been in the electro-acousic vein, with all manner of blurpy electronic noises added to the mix.

For this time around, Shipp has gone back to the basic piano trio. The music though, is anything but basic. Check out Piano Vortex.
