Have you ever been to Los Angeles? Ever been to the club called Largo? To see the musical genius known as Jon Brion?
Well, I haven’t. Mostly because a) I don’t like to fly and b) I hate cities.
But then I keep reading these danged articles about the guy and it makes me crazy.
I’ve always considered “The Trio” — Jarrett,Peacock,DeJohnette — to be the modern-day jazz trio. I still do.
Yesterday morning I pulled a clean pair of pants out of the clothes basket (lazy…hadn’t put them away yet) and, much to my surprise, I found twelve bucks in the right pocket. You know what that means? Yes, I have to buy a CD! It’s like free money!
My Broadway music-fearing self just about fell off the couch with the news that Stephen King and John Mellencamp were putting together a music. I guess there’s been some difficulty with the script because the opening has been
Oh man, there’s nothing better than discovering a piece of music that just refuses to fit into a nice little box.
Protest music has fallen out of fashion. Hell, maybe even the act of protesting has gone away as well.
Some people seem to object to the use of CD’s, records, books, etc. as fetish objects. Since things are going digital, we should detach ourselves from the physical.
Pianist Andy Milne surprised me with the absolute groove-a-liciousness of this new release…until I remembered that he had a history with the M-Base Collective.
