The Friday Morning Listen: Peter Brötzmann - Fuck de Boere

Friday, February 27th, 2009

You might think that there would be no intersection between the world of foodies and the landscape of squeaky, out-there music.

Ah, but you would be wrong.

The Friday Morning Listen: Seth Walker - Leap Of Faith

Friday, February 20th, 2009

I’ve been up to a lot of things recently, much of them involving staring off into space. However, I finally got offa my can and put my “Album-Covers-As-Art” plan into action. It came out pretty good, I must say.

It also got me to thinking about why I love this danged Seth Walker disc so much. See for yourself.

The Friday Morning Listen: Fleet Foxes

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Over at Blogcritics, this one is subtitled “Fleet Foxes vs. Monkey Mind.”

It’s a short story of not being able to quiet my mind long enough to get anything done.

But then, Current TV and Fleet Foxes came to the rescue.

The Friday Morning Listen: Chas & Dave - The World of Chas & Dave

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Strangely enough, this was not difficult to write. I don’t know why. Maybe I’m emotionally burned out? Dunno.

The death of my father has ended one long, surreal part of my life. It feels like I can exhale for the first time in years. I’m wondering how long it’ll take for the feelings of dislocation and sadness to fade.

Anyway, here’s the story.

Peter J. Saleski: 1922-2009

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

It has been one tremendously strange and sad period of time here are Chez Saleski.  Over the past nine months or so, we have lost my cousin Dawn, my godfather Sal, my mom, and my sister.

About 30 minutes ago, I received a call from the hospital. My dad had just passed away…apparently peacefully in his sleep. That’s as it should be, as my dad was one of the most kind and gentle people you’d ever have the luck of meeting.

And I have been one lucky person.

Thanks dad, we’ll miss you.

Jazz.com Reviews: January 30, 2009

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

I haven’t written about much “out there” stuff in a while, and this batch doesn’t really change that. We have jazz singers, a little sorta-gospel folkie/world/I-don’t-know-what-the-heck, and some microtonal blues.

Yes, that’s what I said. Microtonal blues.

Check ‘em out:

Jason Rigby - The Archer

Neil Haverstick - 667 Shuffle

La Tanya Hall - A Lazy Afternoon

Sarah Deleo - Rockin Robin

Norah McCarthy - In The Early Morning Light

Seth Walker - Lay Down (River Of Faith)

Luba Mason - From Me To You

Eva Scow & Dusty Brough - Bird With Beastlike Qualities

Ran Blake - Lost Highway
