The Friday Morning Listen: Parry Gripp - For Those About To Shop, We Saute You
Friday, November 27th, 2009
Hey! Happy Black Friday. I of course, have no plans to do any sort of shopping today (unless you call a beer and nachos shopping), but it’s still fun to yak about all the crazies who have risen before dawn to put themselves through fun at the mall.
So I hope everybody’s having a great time out there, finding some spectacular deals.

The weather has turned cooler and I have developed the urge to stay inside, cook, and read. But my choice of reading material is, I’ve discovered, connected to the time of year. It’s sort of unexpected.
The debate about the future of music and media seems endless. The majority believe that we will go all-digital. Some scoff at this, thinking that people want to own ‘things.’ I don’t really scoff at it, but you won’t find me in the all-digital camp either.
This is about a shrine of sorts. You wouldn’t think that the music of Floyd Cramer would be up my alley and you’d (mostly) be right. But this isn’t about the music as much as what it means to me.
My ear parts totally love music that’s difficult to categorize. Is Somi a jazz singer? R&B? Afro-pop? The answers are “Yes” and “It doesn’t really matter!”
